Course Structure

The course is divided into six detailed modules, each focusing on different aspects of the NMC OSCE. The curriculum includes lectures, practical exercises, case studies, mock exams, and guest lectures to provide thorough preparation.

Module 1: INTRODUCTION TO NMC OSCE

• Overview of NMC OSCE: Introduction to the NMC OSCE, including its purpose, structure, and key components.
• NMC Standards and Guidelines: Study of the NMC's standards for proficiency and guidelines for nursing practice.
• Preparation Strategies: Effective strategies for preparing for the OSCE, including study plans and time management.
• Technological Tools for OSCE Preparation: Use of online resources, practice scenarios & study apps for OSCE preparation.
• Field Trip: Visit to a local healthcare facility to understand the practical application of OSCE-related skills.

Module 2: CLINICAL PRACTICE AND SKILLS STATIONS

• Clinical Skills Overview: Detailed review of the clinical skills required for the OSCE, including wound care, medication administration & patient assessment.
• Skills Stations Practice: Hands-on practice of skills stations, including infection control, manual handling, and vital signs measurement.
• Advanced Nursing Skills: Practical training in advanced nursing skills such as IV therapy, catheterisation, and emergency response.
• Case Study: Analysis of a complex clinical scenario to apply theoretical knowledge to practice.
• Simulation Exercises: Realistic simulation exercises to mimic OSCE stations and enhance practical skills.

Module 3: PROFESSIONAL VALUES AND ETHICS

• NMC Code of Conduct: In-depth study of the NMC Code of Conduct and its application in nursing practice.
• Ethical Principles in Nursing: Exploration of ethical principles, including autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence & justice.
• Legal Aspects of Nursing: Understanding the legal responsibilities and liabilities of nurses, including consent, documentation, and confidentiality.
• Patient Advocacy: Training on how to advocate for patients' rights and needs within the healthcare system.
• Case Study: Examination of an ethical dilemma in nursing and discussion of appropriate actions.

Module 5: LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT

• Time Management and Prioritisation: Techniques for managing time effectively and prioritising tasks in a busy healthcare environment.
• Conflict Resolution: Strategies for resolving conflicts within healthcare teams.
• Quality Improvement and Patient Safety: Understanding quality improvement processes and patient safety initiatives.
• Guest Lectures: Sessions with experienced nursing leaders discussing leadership challenges and strategies.

Module 6: MOCK EXAMS AND FINAL PREPARATION

• Mock OSCE Exams: Practice exams designed to simulate the actual NMC OSCE, including timed stations & realistic scenarios
• Review and Feedback Sessions: Detailed feedback on mock exam performance, identifying areas of strength and areas needing improvement.
• Test-Taking Strategies: Tips and techniques for approaching different types of OSCE stations and managing exam stress.
• Study Groups: Formation of study groups for peer support and collaborative learning.

Course Delivery

• Duration: 6 months (twice a week )
• Format: Blended learning approach with a mix of online and in-person sessions.
• Assessment: Continuous assessment through projects, presentations, case studies, practical exercises & mock exams.

Eligibility Criteria

To enrol in the Certificate of Achievement in NMC OSCE Training, candidates must:

• Have successfully passed the NMC Computer Based Test (CBT).
• Demonstrate proficiency in English, typically evidenced by an IELTS score of at least 7.0 overall, with a minimum of 7.0 in each component, or an OET score of at least grade B in each component.
